FAQ

Common questions

Which calculator do I use to know how many lots I should trade?

The position size calculator. You enter your account balance, the rand or dollar risk you are willing to take, and your stop distance in pips, and it returns a lot size in standard lots of 100 oz. That keeps the risk fixed before you look at the chart again.

What is the difference between the pip value and the profit calculator?

The pip value calculator tells you what one pip (0.01 in XAU/USD) is worth for a given lot size, which is a fixed input. The profit calculator takes that further and converts a full price move, entry to exit, into money. Use pip value to size a stop and profit to check the outcome.

How does the margin calculator handle the 1:200 and 1:500 caps?

You select the leverage your account actually has. Up to 1:200 applies to retail clients, and up to 1:500 is available to eligible or professional clients depending on the instrument. The calculator then shows the margin required. Treat leverage as a cap, not a target — a smaller position uses less margin and less risk.

Do the pivot point tools work for gold on a daily chart?

Yes. The pivot point calculator uses the previous session's high, low and close to produce pivot, support and resistance levels, and you can apply it to daily, weekly or intraday candles for XAU/USD. Levels are reference points, not signals, and price can trade through them without reversing.

Are the calculator results in rand or dollars?

Gold is quoted in US dollars, so the core maths runs in USD. Where a rand figure matters, such as your account balance or the margin you need in rands, the tools convert using the rate you enter. Check that rate against your broker's USD/ZAR quote before you rely on the output.
